Sweet almond oil is pale yellow in color with a heavy texture and nutty aroma. While this carrier oil is not recommended for those of you that have nut allergies, it is a wonderfully emollient oil high in monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) perfect for individuals with no nut allergies. Stayed tuned for more on MUFAs and PUFAs in a later blog!
What can I say about this nourishing oil rich in vitamins A & E that you don’t already know? Well, I can tell you it is obtained from the nut kernel that grows on the sweet almond tree. Yes the very same tree that produces the almonds we eat! The skin benefits of sweet almond oil are almost endless. While ideal for cold Alberta Winters that leave our skin dry, scaly and chapped it also works wonders for mature skin and conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. And if that’s not enough, you will be pleased to know that its high levels of vitamin E work to prevent UV-related damage! For those of us living in cold climates with normal to dry skin, sweet almond oil is the perfect match.
For those of you with nut allergies don’t despair as there are a number of other fabulous carrier oils to choose from that won’t leave you running to the doctor or medicine cabinet for antihistamine medication! Check out the blog on Jojoba oil wax as this just might be your perfect match!
